About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join the VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION team as a Psychologist Stress Disorder Treatment Program. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver individual massed Evidence-Based Psychotherapy (EBP) for PTSD a minimum of four times per week.
  • Provide opportunities for Veterans and providers to engage in shared decision-making and availability of EBP treatment options for PTSD.
  • Lead group sessions focused on accountability, reinforcement of rationale, problem-solving assignments, and group exposure/skills practice to support the individual EBP work.
  • Develop and implement individualized additional groups, interventions, and programming for each Veteran based on their unique psychosocial rehabilitation needs.
  • Ensure time is built into the treatment day for completion of EBP assignments.
  • Implement rolling admissions with variable length of stay (LOS) but anticipated substantially shorter LOS for most Veterans (2-4 weeks).
  • Minimize barriers to admission with a focus on accepting those with more complex presentations (e.g., suicidality, co-occurring conditions including but not limited to substance use).
  • Integrate required suicide prevention requirements including lethal means training, safety planning (as appropriate), required SAVE training for all Veterans, as well as comprehensive screening and evaluation throughout residential admission as already required by policy.

Qualifications
  • Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
  • Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • English Language Proficiency Requirement - Per VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C., chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English.
    • Education Requirement - You must have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
    • Internship Requirement - You must have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed;
    • Licensure: Candidates must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
    • Experience:
      • GS-11 Level: no additional experience beyond the basic requirement
      • GS-12 Level: at least 1 full year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the GS-11 level, and are able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
        • Knowledge of and ability to apply a wide range of professional psychological treatments or assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.
        • Ability to design and implement effective treatment strategies.
        • Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures.
        • Ability to conduct research activities, such as designing and implementing clinical research projects (staff psychologists with specified research job duties).
        • Ability to perform basic research tasks of scholarship and research execution within the context of an established research team, including research participant relations, research documentation, data acquisition, maintenance, and collaboration.
      • GS-13 Level: at least 2 additional years of experience, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 level, as a professional psychologist that was obtained through employment as a psychologist or through participating in a supervised post-doctoral psychology training program that demonstrates 1) active professional practice that was paid/non-paid employment and/or 2) a full, current and unrestricted license.
