Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Room team at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with colleagues, and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients in the Emergency Room, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans, incorporating age-specific considerations and discharge planning.
  • Administer medications, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights, and document and communicate clinical findings.
  • Assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent has been obtained.
  • Participate in emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients.
  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients, as required.
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information.
  • Answer telephones and triage calls, as per departmental policy.
  • Participate in orientation and assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel.
Qualifications
  • Education: Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate, Bachelor's Degree (non-essential).
  • Experience: 1 year directly related experience.
  • Credentials: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuer within 30 days, RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM, PALS within 6 months of position, Basic Arrhythmia Cert within 1 year, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 6 months, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire.
Working Conditions

This position requires Heavy Work, exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

This position also requires working in an environment with potential chemical and biohazardous materials, requiring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
