We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Contract Attorney to join our team at the Children's Law Center of California. As a Contract Attorney, you will play a critical role in advocating for the rights and best interests of children and youth in the foster care system.

Job Summary

The Contract Attorney will provide courtroom coverage, including contested matters, for case-carrying attorneys who are not in the office or who are otherwise unavailable. The successful candidate will be available daily to provide courtroom coverage, attend court hearings, and participate in case plan-related meetings. The Contract Attorney will also be responsible for conducting legal research, brief writing, and developing training for staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide courtroom coverage, including contested matters, for case-carrying attorneys.
  • Attend court hearings, in-person and virtually, on behalf of CLC clients.
  • Participate in case plan-related meetings, including CFTs, IEPs, MDTs, E-Cons, and other meetings.
  • Conduct legal research and brief writing on CARE-related issues.
  • Develop training for staff on dependency law and related areas.
  • Maintain professional relationships with all CLC coworkers.
  • Effectively manage cases assigned for coverage.
  • Use time efficiently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree and a member in good standing of the State Bar Association of California.
  • Excellent time management skills, adaptability, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Positive attitude, ability to work with diverse populations, and skill in obtaining case information.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to establish great rapport with bench officers.
