This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as an attorney. The successful candidate will support the department in fulfilling its responsibilities for the Water Storage Investment Program, established through the voters' passage of Proposition 1 in 2014.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide legal research and analysis to support the department's work on the Water Storage Investment Program.
- Develop unique contracts with project proponents to secure public benefits.
- Work closely with other state agencies, such as the California Water Commission, State Water Resources Control Board, and Department of Water Resources.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on related issues, including the California Endangered Species Act, California Environmental Quality Act, and the Public Trust Doctrine.
- Transfer eligibility or passing the Attorney I exam.
- Ability to work under the supervision of an Assistant Chief Counsel and within a collaborative team of water and aquatic species-focused attorneys.
Maintain normal and consistent work hours, averaging 40 hours per week. Position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule depending on operational needs. Work in excess of 40 hours per week is expected, when necessary, to complete assignments in a timely manner. Travel to all parts of the State via private or public transportation may be required. If required, travel may involve one or more overnight stays.
