Position Overview

The ARFF Assembler plays a crucial role in the assembly of fire apparatus by installing various components such as doors, hose beds, body panels, and additional parts like roll doors and steps, adhering to specific guidelines. This position involves drilling, manipulating, and executing light fabrication on parts and essential truck components to finalize custom installations. The ARFF Assembler is tasked with assembling modules and body parts in accordance with the specification manual. They will also install wire harnesses to prepare for equipment integration, following schematics to run wire harnesses and connect electrical components.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Install all interior and exterior components of the cabs, including routing and fitting A/C lines and vents.
  2. Wire air pumps, dashboard components, and fuse boxes to complete the cab's electrical system.
  3. Assemble body modules and components per the specifications manual.
  4. Install doors, hose beds, compartment internals, and body panels.
  5. Drill and tap holes, performing light fabrication as necessary.
  6. Interpret and understand specifications and blueprints for fire apparatus construction.
  7. Run wire harnesses according to schematics, crimping and connecting wires and electrical components.
  8. Perform additional duties as assigned by management to fulfill organizational needs.

Tools Utilized:

Hand tools, power tools, grinders, cut-off wheels, and measuring tapes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's):

Knowledge:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude required.
  • Manufacturing experience is preferred.

Skills:

Language:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specification manuals.
  • Accurate reading and understanding of measuring tapes.
  • Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions.

Mathematics:

  • Proficient in basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills:

  • Ability to perform basic computer tasks for information retrieval and troubleshooting related to the assembly process.

Abilities:

  • Identify quality issues and adapt to changes in the production process.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision in a collaborative environment.
  • Understand and adhere to all safety protocols to maintain a safe workplace.

Additional Qualifications:

Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed, and the ability to travel locally or for extended periods may be required.
