Communications Research Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Communications Research Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a member of our team, you will be responsible for researching new technologies and developing solutions to address evolving threats.

  • Develop and implement communication systems and protocols to support our mission.
  • Collaborate with our team to design and test communication systems, including wired, wireless, and satellite-based systems.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify and mitigate potential security threats to our communication systems.

As a Communications Research Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from developing new communication protocols to testing and evaluating existing systems. You will be part of a team that is passionate about developing capabilities for specialized wired and wireless networks.

Requirements
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or another technical discipline.
  • At least one year of experience in communications, signal processing, or networks systems engineering.
  • Proficient in communication theory and digital signal processing (DSP), with a solid foundational knowledge of, and experience with, the physical, data link, and media access layers of communication or networking systems.
  • Experience in modeling and simulation of the physical layer with MATLAB, Python, or other languages.
  • Demonstrated strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
  • At least five years experience in commercial and/or government communication and network systems engineering.
  • Recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community, sponsors, and programs.
