We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Research Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for researching and developing innovative solutions to address evolving threats in wireless communications and networking engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research new technologies and develop solutions to address emerging threats in wireless communications and networking engineering.
  • Work with a range of technologies, including wired, wireless (RF & optical), line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) links, SATCOM, IP networking, RF systems, protocols, software defined radio (SDR), stealth waveforms, 5G cellular and cognitive radio.
  • Possess a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or another technical discipline.
  • Have at least one year of experience in communications, signal processing or networks systems engineering.
  • Be proficient in communication theory and digital signal processing (DSP), with a solid foundational knowledge of, and experience with, the physical, data link, and media access layers of communication or networking systems.
  • Have experience in modeling and simulation of the physical layer with MATLAB, Python, or other languages.
  • Have a demonstrated strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Be able to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
  • Have at least five years experience in commercial and/or government communication and network systems engineering.
  • Have recent knowledge of DoD and/or intelligence community, sponsors, and programs.
