Job Title: School Program Lead Counselor

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Program Lead Counselor to join our team at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supporting high school counselors and teachers in the areas of school counseling, postsecondary planning, academic advisement, registration and enrollment, student records, and master schedule development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive school counseling program in alignment with local, state, and national models to ensure high school students graduate on time.
  • Collaborate with administrators to support the operations of the high school improvement plan.
  • Collect, examine, and analyze data to develop continuous improvement plans.
  • Utilize data to guide decisions related to students' academic performance, dropout prevention, graduation plans, and subgroup performance.
  • Lead the annual dropout and graduate data collection and reporting.
  • Develop and monitor measurable outcomes that positively impact graduation rates.
  • Develop, implement, and supervise a timeline for associated activities of a comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Coordinate with the Athletic department for progress monitoring and intervention identification to ensure student-athletes meet grade requirements.
  • Coordinate appropriate student registration procedures for newly enrolled students.
  • Monitor for compliance with state and district graduation requirements.
  • Participate in the annual master scheduling process to ensure students are enrolled in the correct courses to be on-track for graduation.
  • Provide guidance regarding the academic advisement process to ensure students are informed of and have access to advanced coursework.
  • Contribute to the school's Student Services Professional Learning Community team to support students' social-emotional wellness in partnership with school psychologists, school nurses, and school social workers.
  • Lead school and district professional learning communities to support students' social-emotional wellness in partnership with school staff and community partners.
  • Facilitate professional development and attend other related meetings as needed/required.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and training.
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication.
  • Perform related work as assigned or required.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in school counseling required.
  • At least three years' experience as a high school counselor required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid NC school counseling certification, or ability to obtain, required.
  • Member of American School Counseling Association (ASCA) preferred.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation.

Working Conditions:

  • Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
  • Work regularly requires the exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment.
  • Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work.
  • Ability to move to other work locations.
  • Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, and use of advanced technology.
  • Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic).
  • Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress.
