The Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS) is in search of Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders in various disciplines, including:
  • Biology
  • Education
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Nursing
  • Physics
As an SI Leader, your responsibilities will include obtaining the class roster during the initial weeks of the term, tracking any changes throughout the semester, attending the first week of class meetings for the selected course, and acquiring the course syllabus and materials. You will be expected to read all assigned texts and supplemental readings, take comprehensive notes, and conduct a minimum of three 50-minute study sessions weekly. SI Leaders must maintain communication with faculty, provide updates on student progress, and reach out to faculty regarding course materials and assignments. Additionally, you will verify if faculty offer extra credit or incentives for attendance at SI sessions and collect data on attendance through your CAPS Activity Log and 'Navigate Staff'.

Utilizing strategies learned through SI Orientation, the SI Leader Manual, and CAPS Tutor Training, SI Leaders will create and utilize approved handouts for SI sessions. Regular meetings with the Assistant SI Leader Coordinator will be essential to discuss planning for SI sessions, developing handouts, observing SI sessions, employing diverse learning strategies, and addressing any potential issues.

Additional responsibilities include providing extra SI sessions as needed and participating in scheduled meetings with fellow SI Leaders and supervisory staff.

REQUIRED: Strong interpersonal skills; Effective verbal and written communication abilities; Capacity to work collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Candidates must meet one of the following criteria: Holyoke Community College Student; possess an Associate's degree; or hold a Bachelor's degree.

Part-Time, Non-Benefited Position

Hourly Rate: Student $15.00; Associate's degree $17.00; Bachelor's degree or higher $32.64
Hours: Up to 4-18 hours/week
