The Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS) provides free assistance to all HCC students through tutoring, writing, ESL, and math centers; study groups and ongoing study skills workshops; and programs such as our free Math Mini Prep. Additionally, CAPS provides specialized academic programs such as supplemental instruction, learning coaches, and mentoring.

Coaching Responsibilities: Provide students with an initial intake and assessment of learning strengths and areas of development to make appropriate plans and referrals for academic support.Design and implement academic support plans for students based upon assessed strengths and needs.Work one-on-one with a caseload of students in the capacity of a Learning Coach. Meet with student caseload on a regular basis to monitor academic progress.Interpret teacher interventions and classroom directions.Administer and use learning style inventories to plan a course of action for students seeking help.Structure the learning experience so that students may better understand the course content.Assist students in the writing process, pre-drafting, revising and editing.Work with specific support programs (Leadership Network, Transition to Business, Nursing Success, New Directions, etc.) on campus that serve target populations to provide academic support and individualized learning programs.Consult with college faculty and other campus supports to implement educational accommodations for students with documented learning disabilities.Technical Responsibilities: Become skilled in using the software (Computer Assisted Instruction)Help students integrate information technology within the given areaWhen needed use the Assistive Technology CenterBe able to identify and use resources
Training and Resource Support: Attend scheduled meetings or workshops.Communicate with instructor on a regular basis to review tutorial services.Communicate with other resources for assistance such as ESL staff, as well as Math and Writing Coordinators.Explore on-line tutoring as a resource.Be able to provide training in the area of expertise, according to CRLA Certification guidelines.

REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree; Ability to work effectively and flexibly with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body

MCCC Part-Time, Non-Benefited unit positionHours: 18.5 hrs./week
Rate: $32.64/hour
