Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Nursing Instructor to join our team at Southwest Virginia Community College. As a Clinical Nursing Instructor, you will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical instruction and supervision to students in our Practical Nursing Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement clinical instruction plans that meet the needs of students and the program.
  • Provide students with adequate clinical supervision and instruction to ensure they meet the program's clinical objectives.
  • Conduct clinical competency evaluations for each student assigned to your supervision.
  • Participate in continuing education to improve and maintain competence in evaluation skills.
  • Meet regularly with program officials to communicate student progress, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Assist in maintaining student clinical records.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with program policy.
  • May participate in the designated student selection process for entry into the program.
  • Participate in meetings and serve on committees consistent with the goals of the educational program.
Requirements
  • Current license or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse with no disciplinary action that restricts the practice of nursing.
  • At least two years of direct client care experience as a registered nurse.
  • Meet the required guidelines for the clinical area in which they are supervising students.
  • Minimum of an associate's degree in nursing.
  • Current American Heart Association BCLS card.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build successful relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective time management and prioritization of work.
  • Excellence in organization and attention to detail.
  • Effective computer skills (e.g., software, analytical, report writing).
  • Clinical competency and compliance with professional standards of practice.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Able to develop a professional rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • Able to develop and complete projects without continuous direct supervision.
  • Able to learn from students' participation, demonstrates fair and consistent behavior in all matters, and shows compassion without being ineffectual.
  • Able to perform responsibilities within legal and ethical boundaries.
  • Able to lift 20 pounds when performing job responsibilities.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time (e.g., one hour or more) when facilitating labs or clinical.
  • Able to demonstrate techniques specific to the practice of nursing.
