Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at South Central Health System. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by performing various laboratory tests and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests, including internal and external proficiency testing and quality control.
  • Evaluate samples for specimen integrity, checking data for validity of results, instrument functions, reagent reactivity, and investigating any discrepancies.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and perform electronic checks on various analyzers, documenting as required and obtaining service as needed.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of reagents and materials in the work area, checking in supplies and keeping all areas stocked.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records within the QC/QA program, notifying the supervisor of any discrepancies and documenting all necessary data.
  • Coordinate activities efficiently to provide time necessary to perform other related duties, such as CAP workload recording, checking outstanding orders, and participation in continuing education programs.
  • Observe all safety guidelines in compliance with safe work practices.
Microbiology Responsibilities
  • Set up all types of cultures and perform all stains, including proper incubation.
  • Log on log sheet and log into micro solutions in Cerner.
  • Read and interpret all plates as to colony count, isolation, ID of organism, and susceptibility on Vitek and manually, according to organism.
  • Perform concentrations, slides, and special AFB and fluorescent stains for Mycobacteria, including solid and liquid media inoculation.
  • Perform and report all Parasitology testing, including wet mounts, trichrome stains, and test kits.
  • Utilize and maintain microscope to read gram stains, wet mounts, trichrome, India Ink, KOH, AFB, and fluorescent stains.
  • Report to infection control and Mississippi Department of Health.
  • Review all work daily in LIS.
  • Inoculate fungus cultures, stains, isolation, and identification, including germ tubes.
  • Send out specimen or isolates to reference lab and Mississippi State Lab.
  • Utilize and perform maintenance of BacT/Alert.
  • Perform molecular testing for C. diff and maintain the system.
  • Notify providers, Employee Health, MSDH, and/or Jones County Department of Health of critical organisms that may cause the spread of diseases according to protocol.
Requirements

Graduate MT, CLS, CLT, or MLT and/or Certified or Associate Degree in CLT or MLT. Trained in Microbiology.
