Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and analysis of advanced maritime systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems using CAD tools and other design software.
  • Lead mechanical engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Conduct analysis and testing of mechanical systems to ensure they meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Develop and implement test plans, conduct tests, and document test results.
  • Prepare technical documentation for projects, including design reviews, technical reports, and briefing materials.
  • Collaborate with government, industry, and academia to push the limits of maritime technology.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and analyzing mechanical systems.
  • Proven experience with naval architecture principles, including hull design, stability, and structural analysis.
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools such as SolidWorks, CREO, or other design packages.
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling, stress, and thermal analysis using finite element software.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing process.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate orally and in writing with other engineers, scientists, and technicians as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with the design and integration of uncrewed vehicles and undersea sensors (acoustic and non-acoustic).
  • Experience with NAVSEA Temporary Alteration Design Package development.
  • Experience leading project teams.
  • Active Top Secret level clearance.
