Key Responsibilities
- Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll operations.
- Ensure accurate accounting transactions are recorded in the general ledger; responsible for month-end reconciliations and the preparation of monthly financial reports.
- Generate month-end journal entries and conduct a detailed review of the general ledger on a monthly basis.
- Conduct monthly reconciliations of trust accounts.
- Develop the firm’s annual budget, including revenue projections, and collaborate with department heads to finalize their respective budgets.
- Oversee all aspects of financial reporting, including profitability assessments at both the firm and individual timekeeper levels, compensation structures, and rate determinations, along with generating additional reports as requested by management.
- Authorize and process weekly payments, checks, and wire transfers.
- Create, maintain, and update procedural documentation; develop new documentation as necessary.
- Manage third-party vendor 1099 reporting.
- Collaborate with CPA to ensure proper maintenance of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation records, utilizing fixed asset management software; ensure the fixed asset inventory database is current.
- Assist CPA with tax-related issues.
- Establish best practice procedures for accounting functions and drive process enhancements, leveraging technology to boost efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and develop members of the Accounting team.
- Monitor and report on essential financial metrics and KPIs, setting and achieving departmental objectives.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is mandatory.
- A CPA license or MBA is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of general accounting experience in a law firm or professional services environment is essential.
- At least 5 years of management experience overseeing multiple direct reports.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Proficient in project management, document management, and data visualization tools.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central and Microsoft Dynamics or similar systems is preferred, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new accounting software.
Compensation
For job postings in specific locations, Marcum Search is legally required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range. This range considers various factors influencing compensation decisions, including skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other organizational needs. Base salary: $150-215; exempt; competitive bonuses.
