The Pediatric Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) is responsible for conducting comprehensive health evaluations for children, which includes physical assessments and developmental screenings. The APRN also manages specific health issues as per established protocols or through direct collaboration with physicians, offers telephonic management of health concerns, and provides guidance on health promotion and disease prevention.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct health evaluations for children, including physical assessments and developmental screenings, while managing health alterations as per protocols or in consultation with physicians.
  • Assess child abuse reports to identify those requiring medical review.
  • Perform medical examinations and gather relevant histories as outlined in the Child Sexual Abuse Guidelines.
  • Execute additional diagnostic procedures as directed by the physician.
  • Diagnose conditions related to child sexual abuse and facilitate referrals for treatment.
  • Carry out photocoloscopy as per established guidelines.
  • Document lesions and bruises through photography.
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with established protocols.
  • Educate patients and families on preventive care, medical issues, and proper use of prescribed treatments.
  • Respond to legal authorities as required, providing depositions and court testimony when necessary.
  • Review medical records of referred children and assess evidence of abuse in cases where timely medical examinations are not possible.
  • Offer one-on-one consultations with program staff as needed.
  • Participate in weekly Child Protection Team meetings.
  • Attend bi-annual educational meetings for continuing education and quality assurance.
  • Contribute to a positive and engaging workplace environment.
  • Stay informed on job-related issues and trends to enhance knowledge.
  • Actively engage in departmental meetings, training, and quality processes.
  • Adhere to the organization's code of conduct, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist in training new team members and provide support as needed.
  • Be adaptable to take on various projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Licenses & Certifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, required.
  • Current Florida licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle, required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of experience as a nurse practitioner in pediatrics or family medicine, required.
  • Experience with children who have experienced abuse is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Developmental and psychological aspects of children affected by abuse
  • Community resources and legal considerations surrounding child sexual abuse
