Job Summary

The Assembly Technician I role at Thorlabs involves assembling and fabricating semiconductor material, electronic components, subassemblies, products, or systems. This position requires routine work assignments with a need for judgment and attention to detail. The successful candidate will work in a clean-room environment with hazardous chemicals, compressed gases, lasers, and high voltage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and follow production drawings and sample assemblies.
  • Position and align parts in specified relationships.
  • Assemble components and devices from multiple elements.
  • Perform assembly tasks, including cleaning, epoxy bonding, fiber attachment, seam sealing, device and component testing, and final packaging.
  • Conduct basic failure analysis and work with engineering staff to remedy problems and improve processes.
  • Tend machines used in the assembly and testing of components and devices.
  • Adjust or trim materials from components to achieve specified electrical or dimensional characteristics.
  • Perform online go-no-go testing and inspection to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards.
Requirements
  • 0-3 years' experience in semiconductor fabrication/assembly/packaging or other manufacturing/technical environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic English language, writing, and communications skills, as well as basic math.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in a collaborative, team environment and comply with high quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.
Working Conditions

The Assembly Technician I will work in a clean-room environment with hazardous chemicals, compressed gases, lasers, and high voltage. The employee must be able to grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. A steady hand and good hand-eye coordination are required.
