About the Opportunity

Internews seeks an exceptional individual to serve as Director of Policy and Advocacy, leading efforts to educate policymakers and mobilize coalitions to advance its mission: ensuring everyone has trustworthy news and information to make informed decisions and hold power accountable. This key role will work closely with Internews' CEO and senior leadership to set policy and advocacy priorities, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain bipartisan relationships on Capitol Hill and within the Administration, closely tracking legislative developments and educating policymakers on key issues.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with coalition partners, representing Internews in various groups focused on international development.
  • Lead policy development for Internews, meeting regularly with senior leadership to set priorities and identify emerging issues.
  • Engage with country and technical teams to understand media and information issues in key countries, effectively educating policymakers on behalf of those served.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A university degree or equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • 12+ years of progressively senior experience in an advocacy-related field, including at least 5 years of experience educating Members of Congress or staff on policy issues.
  • An established network of contacts on Capitol Hill, with experience working with foreign affairs appropriators or authorizers being a significant advantage.
  • Knowledge of foreign relations/aid policy and players is required.
  • Experience working in coalitions to advance common legislative agendas, with direct experience in coalition management being a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to work independently and as an effective team member.

Salary and Benefits

This is a competitive role with a salary range of $120,500 - $156,700 per year, based on location and experience. Internews Network offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Location

Candidates must be based in Washington, DC, with the option to work partially or fully remotely due to Internews' flexible remote work policy.
