Simmons University seeks a highly skilled Public Safety Specialist to join its dedicated team. This critical role supports the university's commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Job Summary

The Public Safety Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment, responding to emergency calls, enforcing laws and regulations, and conducting thorough investigations. This position requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team-based setting.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Respond to emergency calls, prioritizing situations that pose an immediate threat to life or property.
  2. Enforce laws and regulations, including Massachusetts General Laws and Simmons University policies.
  3. Conduct thorough investigations of incidents, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses as necessary.
  4. Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies, such as the Massachusetts State Police and Boston Police Department, as needed.
  5. Provide training to newly hired police officers and public safety personnel.
Requirements
  • Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified basic police recruit officer course or Mass. State Police SSPO Academy certification.
  • Eligibility for appointment as a Special State Police Officer under M.G.L. ch.22 s. 63.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Driver's License and Class A License to Carry.
  • Pass a comprehensive background check, psychological exam, drug test, and pre-employment medical exam.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in law enforcement, preferably in a college or university environment.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Active certification in CPR/First Aid/AED.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of ARMS system.
  • Military veterans encouraged to apply.
Work Environment

The Simmons University Public Safety Department operates 24/7, with officers working a four-day-on, two-day-off rotating schedule. Mandatory overtime may be required under certain circumstances, and holiday and weekend work is also expected.
