As a key member of the Akumin team, the MRI Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality diagnostic imaging services to patients.

The MRI Assistant is responsible for assisting the Remote MRI Technologist in performing imaging services, ensuring that patient care standards are met, and interacting with patients, families, physicians, and other personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Remote MRI Technologist in performing high-quality diagnostic imaging services in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  • Assist with the overall workflow of the department to ensure the completion of work assignments.
  • Monitor supplies and inform the site manager if additional items need to be ordered to avoid disruption of service.
  • Promptly investigate and report any service malfunctions to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of service calls.
  • Ensure patient history and demographic forms are accurate, complete, and reviewed with the Remote Technologist.
  • Identify and investigate areas of concern to preclude patient incidents.
  • Transport patients to and from the MR suite, properly position them, and provide proper patient communication throughout the examination.
  • Assist with clinical accreditation applications and inspections as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • BLS or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Alpha RT Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • MRTA course training completion required.
  • Understand and practice MRI safety.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and competency in the clinical area of the practice.
  • Excellent people skills, a high level of adaptability, and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

ACLS certification.Medical Assistant or EMT experience.One-year experience in the radiology environment.Familiarity with current software packages such as Google apps, HIS/RIS, and PACS.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee may be exposed to a strong magnetic field, bloody/body fluids, and infectious disease.
  • More than 50% of the time: sit, stand, walk, repetitive movement of hands, arms, and legs, see, speak, and hear to communicate with patients.
  • Less than 50% of the time: stoop, kneel, or crawl, climb and balance, carry and lift non-ambulatory patients.
