Overview

The Parts Quality Assurance Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and performance of supplier components. This position involves thorough investigation, analysis, and resolution of issues related to supplier parts through collaborative efforts with various stakeholders within the organization and external suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with the Supplier Quality Engineer to manage boundary samples, assess trial components, and provide support on the production line, ensuring part readiness for launch.

2. Drive corrective actions and conduct root cause analyses utilizing established problem-solving methodologies and continuous improvement strategies.

3. Assist Production Operations in addressing supplier-related challenges, implementing process enhancements, and engaging in cross-functional initiatives to meet quality, safety, and production objectives.

4. Oversee part sorting operations with third-party vendors, including in-house, yard, and sequencing areas.

5. Initiate and manage containment actions internally, providing feedback to Supplier Quality and relevant suppliers.

6. Facilitate supplier notifications and document initial problem-solving efforts.

7. Communicate and coordinate part quality and data between supplier facilities.

8. Manage part campaigns for retrofitting and reworking components.

9. Coordinate quality-related activities for engines and transmissions with colleagues from German engine plants and suppliers.

10. Supervise repair operations for engines and transmissions in collaboration with suppliers and manufacturing facilities.

11. Maintain inventory for spare and repair parts related to engines and transmissions.

12. Align all repair procedures and methodologies with the standards set by engine and transmission plants and repair technicians.

Qualifications

This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the drivetrain sector.

Experience in a Quality Engineering role within an engine or transmission manufacturing environment is preferred, along with Co-Op or internship experience, totaling up to 2 years.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is essential.

Familiarity with handheld measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) is required.

Understanding of GD&T and SPC analysis is necessary.

The ability to enforce fundamental quality system requirements in an automotive manufacturing context, including APQP steps, control plan validation, PFMEA reviews, and audits, is crucial.

A working knowledge of specific manufacturing processes related to chassis drivetrain components, including experience in welding, stamping, injection/blow molding, casting, and machining, is advantageous. Knowledge of powertrain components, including brake, suspension, exhaust, steering, HVAC, engine, and transmission systems, as well as internal engine and transmission components and their troubleshooting, is also beneficial.

Strong problem-solving capabilities using established methodologies such as 8D, 5-WHY, DOE, RedX, and Six Sigma are essential for success in this position.
