Position Overview: The Oncology Financial Counselor plays a vital role in managing insurance information and accounts receivable. This position involves direct communication with patients to clarify their financial obligations related to their treatment plans and insurance coverage, including services from both Silver Cross Hospital and affiliated organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate insurance demographics and accounts receivable through various communication channels.
- Engage with patients to explain their financial responsibilities based on treatment plans and insurance benefits.
- Collaborate with Billing, Collections, Customer Service, and Financial Counseling teams to streamline processes and enhance communication.
- Assess the need for payment arrangements, financial aid, and identify accounts that may be uncollectible.
- Keep patient demographic records up to date and ensure knowledge of available resources for addressing inquiries.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to Financial Counseling in the Oncology department.
- Assist in training new staff members.
Qualifications:
Required: High School Diploma or GED; at least two years of experience in registration, scheduling, patient accounts, cash collections, insurance verification, or customer service; strong communication skills; in-depth understanding of third-party payer requirements and online benefit verification; proficient in Microsoft Office.
Preferred: Experience with Cerner Millennium Scheduling and Registration modules; Associate Degree in business, healthcare, or a related field; HFMA Credentialed Revenue Cycle Representative.
Work Schedule: Days, Monday through Friday.
