We are in search of a proficient Java Solutions Engineer to become part of our newly established Forward Deployed Engineering team at Alation. In this capacity, you will be tasked with aiding the design, development, and upkeep of bespoke connectors utilizing the Alation OCF Java SDK applications and services that drive our data catalog platform. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that enable organizations to maximize the potential of their data assets. Ultimately, with guidance, you will evolve into an expert on the SDK and gain the proficiency necessary to support our customers' success with it. Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design and development of connectors utilizing Alation's OCF Java SDK for metadata integration into our data catalog platform.
  • Deliver comprehensive, in-person training sessions on the SDK for clients interested in developing their own connectors.
  • Contribute to the creation of SDK documentation and design enablement resources to assist partners and clients in utilizing the SDK effectively.
  • Engage with clients, partners, product management, sales, and other stakeholders to define and understand project requirements.
  • Support clients and partners in writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code while adhering to best coding practices and software development standards.
  • Collaboratively troubleshoot and resolve software defects, enhancing the performance and reliability of OCF connectors.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure high code quality and facilitate knowledge sharing with partners and clients.
  • Contribute to the design and architecture of new features and enhancements within the OCF Framework.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends, tools, and technologies in Java and software development.
  • Identify and document process improvements to enhance efficiency and code quality.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to clients and partners.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, coupled with 2-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in Java software development, including Java 8 or later.
  • Strong grasp of object-oriented programming and design principles.
  • Familiarity with RESTful web services and API development.
  • Experience with database systems, SQL, and data modeling.
  • Proficient in version control systems, such as Git.
  • Knowledge of software development tools and best practices, including testing, code reviews, and continuous integration.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Docker is advantageous.
