Summary:

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is a federally recognized entity with its historical roots in Niobrara, NE. The Tribe operates within a defined 'Service Delivery Area' encompassing 15 counties across Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota, providing a comprehensive array of health, social, educational, and cultural services.

Under the supervision of the Medical Director and Chief Behavioral Health Officer, the Psychiatrist will deliver psychiatric services to both adults and children/adolescents. This role includes providing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for individuals with opioid use disorders, ensuring compliance with state health standards and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Act as the primary psychiatrist for designated behavioral health patients, including both adults and youth.
    • Gather and document comprehensive medical and psychological histories.
    • Conduct physical examinations to assess overall health.
    • Order and interpret diagnostic tests to evaluate patient conditions.
    • Analyze findings to diagnose mental health conditions.
    • Prescribe appropriate treatments and medications.
    • Refer patients to specialists as necessary for advanced care.
  2. Review and update the Comprehensive Treatment Plan on a monthly basis to reflect patient progress.
  3. Ensure timely documentation of medication management and patient advancements.
  4. Provide oversight for conditionally licensed prescribing psychologists as required.
  5. Deliver patient education and care tailored to the specific populations served.
  6. Adhere to all clinic policies and medical staff regulations.
  7. Uphold professional standards and contribute positively to the mission of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska.
  8. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven experience in navigating behavioral health systems.
  • Exceptional communication skills for clear instruction and delegation.
  • Capability to diagnose and treat mental health disorders effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues and patients.
  • Understanding of policies and procedures with the ability to interpret them accurately.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Working Environment:

This role is situated in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers and communication devices.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  1. Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Board certification or eligibility in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and/or Adult Psychiatry, with licensure eligibility in Nebraska.
  3. Possession of a DATA 2000 waiver.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Valid driver's license with insurability.
  7. Successful completion of background checks.
  8. Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred:

  1. Two or more years of experience in individual, family, and group therapy.
  2. Experience working with Native American communities or organizations.
  3. Familiarity with the Indian Self-Determination Act.
