Job Summary

This role involves working with transitional-aged youth, providing support and guidance to help them access and navigate services. As a bridge between youth and the program, the Peer Educator will offer insights and recommendations for program development and service improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver training and support to fellow youth, helping them navigate YEP services.
  • Collaborate with community partners to expand the network of available services.
  • Build positive relationships with external stakeholders, enhancing program effectiveness and outreach.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments for peers to access necessary services and resources.
  • Keep accurate records of personal service history and progress.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working with transitional-aged youth or similar populations.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by youth on the verge of homelessness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with and support peers effectively.
  • Knowledge of local resources and services for transitional-aged youth.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Collaborate on creating and implementing programs rooted in personal lived experiences that contribute to the overall well-being of youth participants.
  • Support fellow peers in navigating benefit and entitlement applications.
  • Advocate for timely and cost-effective services that resonate with the unique needs of at-risk youth.
  • Respond empathetically to any challenges that arise during service delivery.
Essential Duties and Qualifications
  • Read and interpret documents and procedure manuals.
  • Speak effectively in small settings and groups.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Resolve problems involving several concrete variables.
Physical Demands
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have CPR and First Aid certificate within 10 days of start date and maintain a current certificate with Human Resources.
  • Must clear a Department of Justice background check including fingerprinting before start date and maintain clearance.
  • Must be able to work in a DSS Community Care Licensed Facility.
  • Must clear a health screening, including TB before start date and maintain clearance.
  • Must have a car, valid California Driver License and be able to drive, have a clean driving record and maintain a clean driving record.
