About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.


Key Responsibilities
  • Document verbal orders for laboratory tests and log all specimens drawn into the laboratory information system using proper procedures.
  • Process Non-Admit Specimens by admitting patients in LIS using proper procedures, ordering correct tests, and logging in the specimens.
  • Perform analyses on the laboratory test directory, including performing all procedures as outlined in the appropriate procedure manual protocol, learning new procedures, and demonstrating competence as they are added to the test directory.
  • Enter test results into the computer, verify that the result being entered is for the correct patient, and perform basic problem-solving of abnormal or atypical results.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and help substitute for the technical supervisor in their absence.
  • Notify the supervisor when supplies, test kits, and reagents should be ordered and correlate laboratory methods, procedures, and patient test results with age-specific population criteria.
  • Use independent judgment and knowledge to perform assigned tasks and participate in hospital and departmental quality assessment and improvement activities as required.
  • Develop laboratory techniques and procedures, review current procedures in focused areas, and conduct research in conjunction with the technical supervisor.
  • Assist the technical supervisor in the testing, evaluation, and selection of new equipment and assist in the set up and training of operators for new equipment.
  • Responsible for assuring that CAP proficiency results are performed and returned in a timely manner and coordinate the instruction of students and new employees as directed by the technical supervisor.
  • Develop and present continuing education programs for the laboratory staff.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of a Medical Laboratory Technician program or other degree and experience that makes the employee eligible for MLT certification.


Experience: None required, but completion of a Clinical Laboratory internship is preferred.


Certifications: ASCP or AMT certification is required within 2 years of hire.
