We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Reid Health. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.
Key Responsibilities
- Document verbal orders for laboratory tests and log all specimens drawn into the laboratory information system using proper procedures.
- Process Non-Admit Specimens by admitting patients in LIS using proper procedures, ordering correct tests, and logging in the specimens.
- Perform analyses on the laboratory test directory, following procedures outlined in the appropriate protocol, and learn new procedures as they are added to the test directory.
- Enter test results into the computer, verifying that the result being entered is for the correct patient, and perform basic problem-solving of abnormal or atypical results.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area, help substitute for the technical supervisor in their absence, and notify the supervisor when supplies, test kits, and reagents should be ordered.
- Correlate laboratory methods, procedures, and patient test results with age-specific population criteria, demonstrate appropriate troubleshooting capabilities, and use independent judgment and knowledge to perform assigned tasks.
- Participate in hospital and departmental quality assessment and improvement activities, monitor results, and help implement corrective action.
- Develop laboratory techniques and procedures, review current procedures in focused areas, conduct research, and assist the technical supervisor in the testing, evaluation, and selection of new equipment.
- Assist the technical supervisor in the set up and training of operators for new equipment, ensure that CAP proficiency results are performed and returned in a timely manner, and coordinate the instruction of students and new employees.
- Develop and present continuing education programs for the laboratory staff.
Requirements
Education: Graduate of a Medical Laboratory Technician program or other degree and experience that makes the employee eligible for MLT certification.
Experience: None required, but completion of a Clinical Laboratory internship is preferred.
Certifications: ASCP or AMT certification within 2 years of hire.
