Position Overview

Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) delivers empathetic care by upholding nursing standards and fostering positive therapeutic relationships with patients and their families. The LPN plays a crucial role in encouraging team collaboration and supervising support staff, including PCAs, ED Clerical/PCA, and Technicians.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Administers basic and advanced nursing tasks as required by the department/unit.
  2. Provides patient education tailored to individual needs, considering physical, behavioral, psychological, developmental, and age-related factors.
  3. Records and communicates significant observations to the RN, including symptoms, abnormal findings, and changes in patient conditions.
  4. Documents all patient care activities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  5. Assists the care team with the patient discharge process.
  6. Continuously collects and documents patient data, including comprehensive assessments across various age groups.
  7. Participates in performance improvement initiatives by contributing to PI teams and supporting necessary changes.
  8. Completes initial and annual competency evaluations as required for the role.
DCH Standards:

Qualifications

Current LPN License in Alabama is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory. Proficiency in basic computer skills is necessary to navigate electronic medical records and related software.

Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and understand English is essential.
