Automotive Lube and Service Technician

The Automotive Lube and Service Technician is responsible for lubricating vehicle components and executing oil changes, with a primary focus on oil maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Execute tasks as specified on the repair order with precision and efficiency, adhering to dealership and manufacturer standards.
2. Drain the oil from the crankcase and refill with the appropriate quantity of oil.
3. Replace oil and air filters as necessary.
4. Inspect fluid levels in vehicles and replenish as required.
5. Verify tire pressure and inflate as needed.
6. Apply specified lubricants to moving parts.
7. Inject grease into components such as springs, universal joints, and steering knuckles using manual or pneumatic grease guns.
8. Add coolant to the radiator and battery as needed.
9. Preserve and label parts from jobs that are under warranty or upon customer request.
10. Assess assigned vehicles to identify any additional safety or service work that may be necessary.
11. Communicate with the service advisor promptly regarding any required additional work, unnecessary tasks, or delays in repairs.
12. Conduct road tests on vehicles when necessary or refer to a senior technician.
13. Coordinate with the parts department to procure necessary components.
14. Report any machinery defects or issues to the supervisor.
15. Document all performed work on the repair order.
16. Participate in training programs sponsored by the manufacturer as directed by the service manager.
17. Stay informed about manufacturer technical bulletins.
18. Ensure that customer vehicles are maintained in a clean condition and report any changes in appearance or condition to the service advisor immediately.
19. Maintain a tidy and organized work area.
20. Take responsibility for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, ensuring they are returned in the same condition as received.
21. Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and safety protocols.
22. Operate all tools and equipment safely and report any safety concerns to management.
Required Skills
Language Proficiency
Ability to read and understand simple instructions, brief correspondence, and memos. Capable of effectively presenting information in one-on-one interactions with customers, clients, and colleagues. Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as safety guidelines, operational instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Capable of calculating rates, ratios, and percentages.
Reasoning Skills
Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed instructions and address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Experience and Education
Minimum of three to six months of related experience and/or training. High school education at the 11th-grade level is required. A valid driver's license is necessary.
