Position Overview:
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our global headquarters in Allentown, PA. This role is pivotal in addressing intricate mechanical design challenges within a forward-thinking organization at the forefront of the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support research initiatives aimed at developing innovative equipment designs and internals.
- Design and operate laboratory-scale process equipment to explore aspects such as distribution, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and cyclical operations.
- Conduct stress and structural failure analyses to support research projects, capital initiatives, and operational facilities.
- Collaborate with vendors, academic institutions, and testing facilities to enhance mechanical engineering capabilities.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% for plant visits, conferences, and supplier engagements.
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles.
- Proven ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering within the chemical processing or energy sectors.
- Experience in mechanical design at fabrication facilities, construction sites, and operational plants.
- Familiarity with prototype mechanical designs, whether experimental or computational.
- Experience in gasification, ammonia production, CO2 capture and sequestration, or hydrogen production.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering design standards.
- Understanding of machining techniques, fabrication methods, and welding processes.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) modeling.
- Familiarity with nonmetallic materials design and cryogenic materials performance.
- Experience with cyclical processes.
