Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care in our Eye Clinic.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform visual acuity, stereo vision, and color vision tests to assess patients' vision
  • Conduct visual field testing using the Goldman Perimeter and Humphrey Visual Fields Analyzer
  • Evaluate ocular anatomy, ocular motility, and papillary responses
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures as needed
  • Perform autorefraction and ophthalmic photography
  • Accurately record information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
  • Care for and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
  • Provide instruction to patients and caregivers within the limits of your knowledge and as directed by the physician
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required within one year of hiring
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Positive customer service skills
Work Environment

This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced clinical environment and may be exposed to blood and/or bodily fluids, chemicals, and biohazard waste.
