Job Title: Automation Engineer

At Axelon, we are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to join our team. As an Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting our automation systems, ensuring seamless plant operation at our Devens site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement changes to automation systems, including hardware and software components.
  • Manage projects related to automation system design, construction, and qualification.
  • Provide technical expertise to colleagues and contribute to the development of automation systems.
  • Support the design, construction, and operation of process automation systems, building automation, and PLC-controlled systems.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to ensure compliance, safety, and licensure of manufacturing facilities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or Associate's degree in Electronics or Instrumentation.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in engineering (with BS degree) or 6 years in instrumentation (with Associate degree) designing, installing, and troubleshooting process automation systems.
  • Practical experience with large-scale distributed control systems, including troubleshooting foundation fieldbus networks and DeviceNet segments.
  • DCS and PLC-based experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry, including PLC (AB Control Logix preferred), Delta Controls, and DeltaV experience.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet networks, Modbus TCP, and Ethernet IP, as well as IO infrastructures such as Foundation Fieldbus, DeviceNet, and Profibus.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on the floor in a manufacturing process environment, preferably in chemical or biotechnology.
  • Experience with large-scale cell culture, chromatography, and membrane filtration unit operations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Ethernet networks and Variable Frequency Drives through DeviceNet networks.

This is a full-time position requiring 100% on-site presence. The successful candidate will also be required to be available for on-call duties during off-shift hours, based on a rotating schedule, to support manufacturing operations.
