Position Overview:
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer plays a pivotal role in conducting subsurface investigations and engineering evaluations for site development projects. This includes forensic assessments and support for design plans related to earth retaining structures, wastewater treatment systems, and foundation support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage teams to execute field exploration programs across diverse project types.
  • Conduct field investigations on complex projects in geotechnically sensitive areas.
  • Draft drilling and subcontractor instructions tailored to specific project scopes.
  • Supervise engineering services during construction phases, focusing on foundation systems and excavation support.
  • Formulate geotechnical inspection scopes, schedules, and budgets for project proposals.
  • Prepare detailed field investigation instructions for field personnel.
  • Communicate findings from subsurface explorations to project teams and clients as necessary.
  • Develop design recommendations and identify needs for further investigation based on field data.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing programs aligned with field results.
  • Analyze field boring and test pit logs to inform technical reports on subsurface conditions.
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses for various foundation types, earthwork, and slope stability.
  • Compile comprehensive geotechnical engineering reports that outline investigation data and design recommendations.
  • Review construction phase testing and inspection reports for adherence to project specifications.
  • Assist project managers with fieldwork coordination and project management tasks.
  • Engage with clients and contractors to discuss project-related activities and outcomes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Soil Science, Geology, or a related field; a concentration in geotechnical engineering is preferred.
  • A Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering is advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of experience in geotechnical consulting, construction material inspections, or laboratory testing.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or the ability to obtain one.
  • Valid driver's license and capability to operate personal or company vehicles.
  • Hands-on experience with both metric and English measurement tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to utilize geotechnical software for foundation and slope stability designs.
  • Independent and critical thinking skills with a self-starter attitude.
  • Familiarity with mapping websites for site investigations.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar software for site plan production.
  • Willingness to mentor and train junior engineers and technicians.
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency interactions and planning processes.
