Position Summary

The Cashier is responsible for executing all point-of-sale operations, which include accurately processing customer transactions and maintaining precise records of cash, checks, and credit card payments. This role requires delivering exceptional customer service with a friendly demeanor. The Cashier reports directly to the store manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Welcome and engage with customers, management, and colleagues in person and over the phone.
  2. Efficiently operate point-of-sale systems to ensure smooth transactions and high customer satisfaction.
  3. Verify items in carts and containers to ensure accurate pricing and sales.
  4. Understand and interpret sales promotions and store policies.
Primary Duties:
  1. Greet customers warmly as they approach the checkout, making eye contact and using their names when possible.
  2. Guide customers to product locations within the store and assist them as needed.
  3. Utilize the Point Of Sale system to process transactions, ensuring accuracy in all forms of payment.
  4. Occasionally assist in stocking merchandise when not engaged with customers.
  5. Maintain a clean and organized checkout area to present a professional image.
  6. Stay informed about current promotions and sales to provide customers with accurate information.
  7. Be vigilant for potential shoplifting and report any suspicious behavior to management.
  8. Occasionally serve as a customer coordinator, directing shoppers and staff as necessary.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Handle returns and exchanges as directed by management.
  2. Ensure adequate supplies are available for checkout operations.
  3. Participate in store meetings and training sessions as required.
  4. Prepare the register with the necessary change at the start of each shift.
  5. Assist in training new cashiers when requested.
  6. Keep pricing information current and accessible.
  7. Utilize communication systems effectively when needed.
  8. Maintain merchandise displays at the checkout area.
  9. Return unsold or returned items to their proper locations.
  10. Ensure coverage at the checkout station during breaks or absences.
  11. Notify management of any equipment malfunctions.
  12. Engage in special projects as assigned by supervisors.
  13. Address customers by name when possible to enhance their shopping experience.
  14. Thank customers for their patronage and wish them well as they leave.
  15. Be aware of security measures in place.
  16. Conduct thorough checks of merchandise to prevent loss.
In addition to the responsibilities outlined, the Cashier may be required to perform other tasks as assigned by management.
