Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Head Teacher to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Hartford. As a key member of our early childhood education program, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and engaging environment that fosters the growth and development of young children.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Supervise daily classroom activities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for children.
  2. Develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculums, meeting state guidelines and promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect.
  3. Maintain open lines of communication with families, working collaboratively with staff to meet the needs of individual children.
  4. Attend and actively participate in supervision, multi-component, and staff meetings, contributing to the overall success of our program.
  5. Assist in the preparation of materials, equipment, and information for the daily program, taking daily attendance and lunch count, and maintaining accurate records.
  6. Use appropriate food handling, sanitation, and OSHA procedures at all times, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for children and staff.
  7. Conduct monthly fire drills, lockdown drills, and other emergencies, prioritizing the safety and well-being of children and staff.
  8. Maintain a clean and organized classroom and storage area, adhering to YMCA standards and regulations.
  9. Display and uphold YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, consistently demonstrating a commitment to our mission and values.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of child and family information, upholding the trust and confidence placed in us.
  11. Supervise a group of children, providing guidance and support as needed.
  12. Assist in maintaining all center policies, OEC state regulations, and NAEYC standards, ensuring compliance and excellence in our program.
Requirements

We are seeking an individual with a strong background in early childhood education, a warm and nurturing personality, and excellent communication skills. A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is required, along with a minimum of two years of experience in early childhood education. Bilingualism in Spanish and English is a plus. This position may be authorized to have access to protected Health Information (PHI) to perform specific job duties.
