Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Utility Line Locator to join our team at the City of Columbus. As a Utility Line Locator, you will be responsible for locating underground utility lines, performing related duties, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Locate underground utility lines using various line locator equipment, maps, and atlases.
  • Identify locations of underground leaks or spills using pipeline locator equipment, maps, and atlases.
  • Identify locations of damaged or structurally compromised lines or facilities and report them to your supervisor.
  • Operate a laptop computer for reading prints, mapping, and completing work orders and other related documentation.
  • Excavate valve boxes to assist locating main utility line valves.
  • Make drawings, sketches, and take photographs of utility line locations.
  • Complete records on work completion.
  • Drive to general areas of utility lines and lay out traffic cones and other devices to divert traffic.
  • Oversee and train others in locating utility lines and inform consumers of utility line responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience locating, installing, and/or inspecting utility lines.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
