Diesel Truck Shop Manager

Reports to: Garage Manager
Job Summary:
As a Diesel Truck Shop Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the garage, including mentoring, interviewing, hiring, terminating, performance evaluations, scheduling, and assigning duties to team members. You will also be responsible for maintaining the store's brand, ensuring all garage functions are running smoothly, and that your staff promotes the American Furniture Warehouse culture.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Garage Managers in the successful and timely flow of production work
- Supervise the maintenance program for all transportation and equipment for all AFW locations
- Perform repairs and maintenance on all AFW vehicles
- Oversee and maintain maintenance records of inspections and repairs of fleet equipment
- Coordinate the training of new employees and ensure that current employees are receiving ongoing career development
- Work with diesel/equipment mechanics and support staff to assess equipment needs and repair problems by using the most cost-effective practices
- Ensure we maintain a safe working environment for employees and remain compliant with all OSHA and DOT regulations for the facilities and Fleet
- Develop strategies for better workplace efficiency and goal achievement
- Maintain Garage cleanliness to avoid damage of equipment entering and leaving the facility
- Provide input on labor needs based on workflow and direction from upper management
- Evaluate employees based on performance and other metrics
- Create schedules, approve payroll, and assign duties to employees as necessary
- Strategically manage, coordinate, and supervise the Garage, ensuring we remain in compliance with company, state, and federal regulations
- Recommend tools, fixtures, equipment, or layout changes to improve workflow, productivity, and quality of employee performances
- Liaise between managers, vendors, drivers, and employees
- Oversee garage opening and closing procedures: ensuring exterior doors are properly secured, exterior and interior lights on or off, all alarms are set, and doors locked
- Organize the garage and parts room to maximize both floor space and storage racking utilization
- Oversee daily cleaning and appearance of garage, which includes assigning cleaning duties as necessary
- Serve as acting Garage Manager when Garage Manager is away
- Troubleshoot equipment problems and work to maintain fleet vehicles and equipment proactively
- Train and monitor department expenditures to remain within the department's budget using maintenance manager software
- Ability to identify and recruit high-quality team members for all vehicle maintenance positions
- Develops and maintains outside vendor and service provider relationships
- And all other duties assigned by the Garage Manager, Fleet Maintenance Director, C.E., President, or Operations Manager as directed
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Three years of experience working on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and medium-duty trucks
- Two years of experience working with cars, pickups, and various equipment
- Two years of experience in a leadership role
- Budgeting and payroll experience
- Hands-on experience with engine repairs on PACCAR, Cummins, medium, and heavy-duty automotive, etc.
- Hands-on experience using computer diagnostic software to pinpoint engine, transmission, and electrical issues
- Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on AFW's success
- Strategic planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate

Computer Skills:
- Ability to navigate multiple computer systems, type 25+ wpm, advanced familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), advanced internet research skills
- Ability to regularly use computers for ordering, communication, documentation, scheduling, maintenance of organizational content on shared drives
Education and Experience:
- Four-year college or university program degree; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Physical Demands:
- Capacity to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas
- Capacity to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for 8 hours or more daily
- Continuous use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, and back
- Ability to lift, lower, push, and pull all sizes of vehicle components up to 100 lbs. and skill to handle/manipulate vehicle components up to 250 lbs. frequently
- Lifting, gripping, bending, kneeling, stooping, and moving vehicle components 8 hours or more daily
- Requires the ability to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas
- Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend for 8 hours a day
- Requires constant use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, legs, and back
