Position Overview

The UCLA Information Security Office is dedicated to safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the university's information assets.

This office is responsible for developing effective incident response strategies and risk assessment methodologies to identify potential vulnerabilities and threats to the university's information resources.

Key responsibilities include executing a comprehensive IT security strategy that encompasses administrative, technical, and physical security measures tailored to address identified risks based on their sensitivity.

The Identity and Access Management (IAM) function is vital for protecting UCLA's resources and facilitating business operations through robust access management practices, including account lifecycle management, authentication processes, and role-based provisioning.

This team enforces strict regulations on entitlements through detailed access control measures and conducts audits of all identities managed by the university.

The IAM Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of IAM solutions that align with the university's security policies and compliance requirements, ensuring consistency across various environments.

This role requires close collaboration with the Director of IAM, IAM Analysts, and various university departments, as well as external partners, to ensure secure and efficient access to identity data.

The IAM Engineer will contribute significantly to UCLA's operational integrity and cultural values by protecting sensitive information and supporting the institution's academic objectives.

This position is integral to delivering exceptional security services across the university community, including faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in cybersecurity, computer science, or related fields (Required).
  • Advanced proficiency with identity and access management tools in a distributed IT environment (Required).
  • Hands-on experience with directory services implementation (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP) and authentication technologies (e.g., SSO, multi-factor authentication) (Required).
  • Experience fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity and belonging (Required).
  • Experience in complex higher education settings (Preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in relevant fields (Preferred).
  • Proven ability to apply authentication and account management standards to vendor provisioning solutions (Required).
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure and operating system deployment (Required).
  • Proficient in scripting languages for automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python) (Required).
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to diverse audiences (Required).
  • Able to build positive relationships with team members and stakeholders (Required).
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities (Required).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking (Required).
Education & Certifications

Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience (Required).

Certifications such as CCNP Security, CCIE Security, OSCP, CISSP, or CEH are preferred.

Employment Conditions

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

Work hours are typically from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, with flexibility based on operational needs.
