License: Licensed RN able to practice within the State of Mississippi

Certifications:

  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • NIH Stroke Scale

Must-Have:

  • Completion of an approved course in RN First Assisting
  • Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program
  • A minimum of 24 hours demonstrated proficiency in scrubbing and circulating

Job Description:

As a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) in our Cardiovascular Surgery department, you will provide assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures in the sterile field. You will carry out perioperative nursing practices under the supervision of the surgeon during intra-operative phases, communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and co-workers, and promote a positive work environment with the operating room team.

You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients undergoing surgical intervention, display knowledge and skills essential for patient care appropriate to their age and developmental stage, and document patient care accurately according to hospital policy.

You will also maintain accurate records, including implant logs, adhere to hospital standards, provide direct and efficient patient care, including managing emergencies and advocating for patient rights, and use therapeutic communication to build relationships with patients and the healthcare team.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and troubleshoot operating room equipment, including electrocautery, bipolar devices, suction units, drills, video equipment, lasers, microscopes, headlights, surgical lights, OR tables, and robots
  • Collaborate and maintain open communication with all members of the OR team
  • Foster teamwork by understanding overall unit acuity and offering assistance when needed
  • Seek and provide guidance within the interprofessional healthcare team
  • Advocate for patients and families to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns
  • Enhance quality and safety by holding peers accountable and collaborating with the healthcare team

Requirements:

  • Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program
  • Minimum of 2 years demonstrated proficiency in scrubbing and circulating
