Registered Nurse First Assistant

Forrest General Hospital is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join our Cardiovascular Surgical Services team. As an RNFA, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.
Job Summary:The RNFA will assist the surgeon in performing safe operations, achieving optimal patient results, and providing exceptional patient and coworker experiences. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, independence, and sound judgment in interactions with the interprofessional care team.
Responsibilities:- Assist the surgeon in performing safe operations and achieving optimal patient results.
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and co-workers, maintaining a strong customer service focus.
- Provide exceptional patient and coworker experiences by consistently using positive language.
- Demonstrate independence and sound judgment in interactions with the interprofessional care team.
- Foster a positive work environment with the OR team.
- Collaborate actively with the OR team by communicating and reporting pertinent information clearly.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients undergoing surgical intervention.
- Document care as per hospital policy and maintain accurate implant logs.
- Exhibit critical thinking skills, especially in emergency situations.
- Act as a patient and family advocate to monitor and maintain patient rights.
- Establish therapeutic communication and collaborate with the healthcare team on the plan of care.
- Coordinate care for complex patients with the interprofessional team, supported by accurate documentation.
- Contribute to safety and quality improvements through peer accountability and reporting near misses.
- Skillfully set up and troubleshoot Operating Room equipment like electrocautery, bipolar devices, and more.
- Minimum 2 years of demonstrated proficiency in scrubbing and circulating.
- Licensed RN able to practice within the state.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), NIH Stroke Scale, RNFA course completion, Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).
- A minimum of 24 hours of demonstrated proficiency in scrubbing and circulating.
- Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program.
- Completion of an approved course in RN First Assisting.
