About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Flight Software Engineer to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Lunar Transportation business unit, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing human-rated flight software for our crewed lunar lander. Your expertise in C++ and experience with safety-critical software standards will be invaluable in ensuring the success of our mission.

As a Senior Flight Software Engineer, you will work closely with our team of experts to develop software requirements, design and implement software architecture, and collaborate with pilots, human-factors experts, and designers to derive requirements and develop best-in-class piloting and data displays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, test, and deploy human-rated flight software in C++
  • Develop software requirements in coordination with customers, systems engineers, and subsystem owners
  • Work with flight software, subsystem teams, pilots, and human-interface experts to derive requirements and develop best-in-class piloting and data displays
  • Mentor, train, and collaborate with engineers of all levels
  • Identify, track, and reduce technical and schedule risks
  • Perform trade studies on software tools, architecture, and implementation
  • Document software architecture and design using UML
  • Write unit tests, support integration, and participate in code reviews
  • Support integration of software components with Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation environments
  • Employ and support Continuous Integration tool chains and build servers
  • Communicate and promote the capabilities and needs of the displays & controls software

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of software development experience, including technical leadership and multi-threaded programming
  • Strong C++ object-oriented design, development, and debugging experience
  • Experience with VxWorks or other RTOSs
  • Experience with robust time and space partitioning
  • Experience with embedded Linux and/or real-time operating systems
  • Solid understanding of NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety-critical software standards
  • Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary
  • Demonstrated experience developing UI applications
  • Experience with full lifecycle development, including gathering requirements, design, implementation, integration, verification, and release
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing safety-critical products using NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety-critical software standards
  • Experience with Human Space Flight
  • Experience working on avionics, satellite, or space flight systems
  • Experience with OpenGL or other graphics APIs
  • Experience with NASA cFS

Compensation Range:

$170,805.00-$239,127.00
