POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general oversight of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant Lead will undertake specific administrative responsibilities. Clinical tasks may encompass recording vital signs, administering medications, and providing direct care as required, adhering to established protocols. Administrative functions may involve orienting new medical assistants, addressing clinic inquiries, and executing the training program for medical assistants. This role necessitates a National Certification from recognized certifying bodies such as the American Allied Health Association, National Center for Competency, or the National Health Career Association, along with verified Scribe training.
KEY FUNCTIONS OF A MEDICAL ASSISTANT:
- CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Room patients, including obtaining vital signs, verifying medications, and gathering relevant medical history.
- Assist physicians and nursing staff as required.
- Conduct EKGs and perform spirometry tests.
- Administer oxygen and respiratory treatments as directed by healthcare providers.
- Conduct in-office laboratory tests and urine drug screenings.
- Manage prescription refills and enter orders for medications and labs as instructed.
- Participate in daily huddles with providers and the healthcare team.
- Perform blood draws and administer injections, following competency protocols.
- Assist with minor procedures and wound care, including suture and staple removal.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms.
- Stock and prepare instruments for sterilization.
- Schedule follow-up appointments as directed by providers.
- Train other staff members within the scope of medical assistant duties.
- Maintain logs and conduct required checks, such as refrigerator temperatures.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
- NON-CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to attendance standards and be prepared to start shifts on time.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
- Exhibit strong work ethics, flexibility, and commitment to the role and community.
- Demonstrate respect and cultural sensitivity towards clients and colleagues.
- Maintain a customer service-oriented mindset while interacting with all stakeholders.
- Uphold HIPAA regulations and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
SCRIBE FUNCTIONS:
- Review and comply with policies regarding scribe usage and sign the necessary agreements.
- Document accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR), including medical history, physical exams, and consultations.
- Participate in team huddles and ensure patient charts are complete and accurate.
- Communicate any gaps in patient care to clinicians.
ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in training and orienting new medical assistants.
- Collaborate with various departments to enhance patient care.
- Track preventative and follow-up testing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Work with supervisors to refine training programs and departmental objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of six months of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant or equivalent experience.
- Completion of Scribe training in a clinical setting.
- Current BLS certification is mandatory.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology is essential.
- Demonstrated leadership and excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
