Classification Overview

The City of Rialto Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Community Outreach Specialist. This role is vital in fostering communication between the Police Department and the community, focusing on crime prevention and public safety initiatives.

Role Summary

Under general supervision, the Community Outreach Specialist will engage in a variety of non-sworn law enforcement and crime prevention tasks. The individual will act as a bridge between the community and the Police Department, facilitating programs aimed at reducing crime and enhancing public safety.

Key Responsibilities

1. Execute a range of non-sworn, uniformed duties to support police operations and community engagement efforts.
2. Collect and process evidence in accordance with established protocols; document crime scenes and prepare materials for court.
3. Develop and implement community programs such as Neighborhood Watch and Crime Free Multi-Housing initiatives.
4. Conduct security assessments for residential and commercial properties, providing recommendations for safety improvements.
5. Collaborate with various departments and agencies on special projects and community programs.
6. Address public inquiries and provide assistance in processing information related to police operations.
7. Participate in special projects as directed, including the creation of informational materials and managing social media communications.
8. Maintain accurate records and files related to community programs and police activities.

Qualifications

Experience: A minimum of three years in a civilian police program or related field.

Education: Completion of high school or equivalent, with additional coursework in Criminal Justice or related areas preferred.

Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, and proficiency in modern office software and databases.
