Poultry Care Person Job Description

Michael Foods, Inc. is a leading food processing and distribution company with a strong presence in the egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products industries. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Poultry Care Person to join our team in Wakefield, Nebraska.

Job Summary:

The Poultry Care Person will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our poultry flock. This includes maintaining a clean and safe environment, monitoring temperature and humidity levels, and providing adequate feed and water to the birds. The successful candidate will also be responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and disinfecting the poultry houses, and operating equipment to ensure efficient egg production.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain poultry houses to ensure optimal egg production and bird health.
  • Monitor and maintain temperature, humidity, and ventilation levels in the poultry houses.
  • Provide adequate feed and water to the birds, and ensure that the feed and water systems are functioning properly.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and disinfecting the poultry houses, and operating equipment to ensure efficient egg production.
  • Monitor and report any issues or concerns related to bird health, egg production, or equipment operation.
  • Work closely with the farm supervisor and maintenance team to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Requirements:

  • No prior experience or training is required, but a willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  • Ability to read and write simple sentences, and to understand basic math concepts.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds and work in a variety of positions, including bending, kneeling, and crawling.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Working Conditions:

The Poultry Care Person will work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to dust, aromatic conditions, and varying temperatures. The successful candidate must be able to pass a pulmonary function test and fit test, and must be able to lift 20 pounds and work in a variety of positions.

The primary language spoken in the workplace is English.
