Job Overview

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technician at Great Lakes Cheese plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of our cheese products. This position is responsible for monitoring, record/product review, and inspections to support the overall Food Safety Plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct analytical and performance tests on raw materials, cheese, whey, and by-products, and effectively document and communicate results.
  • Complete investigatory swabbing and aid with remediation investigations and action implementation.
  • Inventory laboratory supplies and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Complete proficiency testing and split samples to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Lead product retesting and ANSI inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Enter results into various computer software programs and maintain accurate records.
  • Review HTST Charts to ensure proper temperature control.
  • Perform calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance on laboratory and receiving equipment.
  • Ensure that records, logs, and data are in compliance with associated regulatory and company requirements.
  • Maintain company confidentiality and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by plant FSQA leadership.
Required Education and Experience
  • High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge/understanding of chemical and physical processes relating to cheese quality.
  • Ability to complete tasks based on standard procedures.
  • Basic Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree in Food Science or related field.
  • Food Manufacturing experience, preferably in dairy and cheese make.
  • 1 year of FSQA Technician experience.
  • SAP experience and HACCP Certification.
Working Conditions

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technician will work in a lab setting with occasional exposure to industrial operations, including temperature extremes, noise levels, and moisture. The ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift is required. Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, and safety glasses may be required. The work environment is fast-paced with average temperatures between 60-80 degrees F.
