Position Overview:

As an Environmental Science Specialist at GSI Service Group, Inc., you will play a crucial role in supporting various Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW) initiatives. Your expertise will contribute to field investigations and remediation efforts, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivering chemistry-related technical assistance across a spectrum of HTRW projects.
  • Drafting and evaluating chemistry-focused sections of project planning documents, including Work Plans and Quality Assurance project Plans.
  • Formulating sampling strategies and establishing project data quality requirements.
  • Identifying federal and state-specific project action levels that align with contract and regulatory standards.
  • Selecting suitable analytical methods based on environmental contaminants.
  • Assessing the behavior and movement of chemicals in the environment and their implications for human health.
  • Training team members on proper sample collection and management protocols.
  • Supervising the collection and management of samples from diverse media.
  • Managing waste characterization sampling and analysis for appropriate disposal of investigation-derived waste.
  • Creating scopes of work and collaborating with laboratory and data validation subcontractors.
  • Ensuring familiarity with the Department of Defense Quality Systems Manual and verifying laboratory accreditations.
  • Overseeing analytical laboratory data management and coordinating submissions to management databases.
  • Conducting thorough reviews of field and laboratory data for accuracy and compliance with quality assurance standards.
  • Performing data evaluations, including trend analyses and usability assessments.
  • Collaborating effectively within project teams and mentoring junior personnel.
  • Experience with PFAS/PFOA and Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) is advantageous but not mandatory.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry or a related environmental science field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in environmental chemistry.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects of varying complexity.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
