The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with extensive expertise in finance, strategic development, and M&A within the mortgage or financial services sector. The CFO collaborates closely with Sales and Production Leadership to leverage a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape in the mortgage industry, enabling proactive responses to market dynamics.
The CFO is tasked with delivering forecasts and analyses regarding financial requirements, covering aspects such as cash flow, warehouse lines, and mortgage servicing rights credit facilities. In addition to managing the overall accounting framework, the CFO is instrumental in crafting and executing financial protocols that bolster the fiscal well-being of the organization. This role also involves participating in the creation, implementation, and assessment of the corporate business strategy, effectively communicating this plan to team members to align them with the company’s shared vision and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Formulate and implement the financial strategy to facilitate growth, enhance revenue, and improve profit margins.
- Engage in strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting across all organizational levels, including departments and branches.
- Develop and oversee a financial plan ensuring sufficient capital and liquidity for growth while considering the desire to maintain a closely held company.
- Collaborate with the President to establish a continuity plan that secures the company’s succession and creates liquidity opportunities for senior management while preserving ownership control.
- Foster strong relationships with senior executives and managers to understand their needs and collaborate on business initiatives.
- Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators to identify avenues for revenue and profitability enhancement.
- Supervise the Accounting, Human Resources, and IT departments.
Capital Markets & Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR)
- Possess knowledge of Capital Markets and hedging strategies.
- Oversee the management and valuation of MSRs, ensuring precise accounting and reporting.
- Devise strategies to maximize the value of MSRs while managing associated risks.
- Direct MSR hedging initiatives to mitigate interest rate exposure.
Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A)
- Lead M&A initiatives, including target identification, due diligence, negotiations, and integration.
- Understand profitable business models within the mortgage and finance sectors.
- Establish and maintain relationships with investment banks, financial advisors, and other stakeholders to facilitate M&A efforts.
- Oversee post-merger integration to ensure successful consolidation and realization of synergies.
- Guide and mentor the accounting, finance, HR, and IT teams, promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Attract, develop, and retain top talent aligned with the company’s values.
- Champion innovation and effectively manage the implementation of new initiatives.
- Create an environment where all team members have a development plan and career trajectory that encourages ongoing learning and growth.
- Encourage personal development among associates and devise individual development plans.
- Reinforce a collaborative approach and ensure clear communication of key initiatives outlined in the business strategy.
- Solicit and support input from team members at all organizational levels.
- Ensure regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports and departmental meetings occur under CFO oversight, along with supporting team-building activities outside the office.
Financial Operations, Reporting & Risk Management
- Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, reporting, treasury, tax, and compliance.
- Identify and manage financial risks, including credit, liquidity, and market risks.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to stakeholders.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls and financial systems.
- Manage the company's accounting systems.
- Develop and enforce risk management policies to mitigate key risks.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
- Establish performance metrics that align with the company’s strategic direction.
- Implement operational best practices.
- Assist in developing investment vehicles for financing or acquiring MSRs.
- Advise on financial opportunities or contracts.
- Evaluate the implications of long-term planning and new strategies.
- Manage warehouse lines and maintain proactive relationships with representatives.
- Oversee liquidity management, including cash flow forecasting and reporting.
- Enhance bank and deposit relationships to optimize cash positions.
- Maintain relations with external auditors and address their findings.
- Ensure compliance with record-keeping requirements.
- Manage corporate business insurance.
- Maximize investment returns by identifying sound opportunities.
- Collaborate on tax planning strategies for the company and its owners.
- Leverage technology to improve financial reporting and decision-making.
- Provide technical financial guidance to team members.
HR Oversight
- Guide and mentor the HR Manager.
- Manage employee benefits, focusing on cost-effective packages.
- Enhance and implement organizational policies to improve operational effectiveness.
IT Oversight
- Guide and mentor the IT Manager.
- Oversee IT strategy and infrastructure to align with business goals.
- Collaborate on technology initiatives that support financial objectives.
- Ensure the financial viability of IT projects through budgeting and analysis.
- Manage IT-related risks, including cybersecurity and compliance.
Communication
- Work with Senior Management to ensure organizational clarity.
- Keep departments informed of changes through regular meetings.
- Proactively communicate updates in accounting technology.
- Address personnel issues directly, guided by company values.
Customer Management
- Engage with internal customers, including branch and home office managers.
- Communicate effectively to identify needs and evaluate solutions.
- Continuously seek ways to enhance internal customer satisfaction.
- Maintain positive relationships and provide senior-level resolutions.
Internal Operations
- Review project status reports and address issues as necessary.
- Provide expertise to internal teams.
- Enforce company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in business administration, finance, or accounting or equivalent experience.
- 5-10 years of experience in the mortgage or related industry.
- Capital Markets experience is advantageous.
- Demonstrate good judgment and strong character.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with associates, clients, and vendors.
- Strong communication skills and professional work habits.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform various physical tasks throughout the shift.
- Specific vision abilities required for this role.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- May require driving for business purposes.

Compensation:
The total annual compensation range for this position is $250,000 to $330,000, influenced by various factors including experience.
