The Clinical Pathology Assistant (CPA) operates under the direct oversight of a licensed pathologist, responsible for the dissection and processing of excised tissue and biopsy samples.

These tasks may range from straightforward to intricate. The CPA is expected to dictate detailed gross descriptions and select representative diagnostic specimens for histological analysis. Additionally, they assist pathologists or residents during intra-operative consultations, which include gross dissection and preparation of frozen sections. The role involves obtaining tissue samples for specialized clinical studies, such as flow cytometry, cytogenetics, electron microscopy, and research protocols approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). A comprehensive understanding of all aspects of tissue pathology and grossing procedures is essential.

The CPA may also conduct autopsies, compile findings in relation to pertinent clinical information in a Provisional Anatomic Diagnosis (PAD) report, and submit necessary tissue sections for histological examination to support the final anatomic diagnosis (FAD) report.

The position entails engaging in both professional and administrative functions within a specialized clinical domain. The CPA analyzes data and prepares comprehensive reports on findings.
Qualifications
Must possess a Master's Degree
A valid Pathologist Assistant license is mandatory
Previous experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous
Standard working hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
