Senior Surety Underwriter

Old Republic Surety Company is seeking a Bond Manager to join its Contract Surety Team in our Pittsburgh, PA branch office. As a leading underwriter of contractors' performance and payment bonds, miscellaneous surety, and commercial fidelity, we offer thousands of types of bonds.
The Bond Manager is responsible for ensuring profitability and growth of the branch office through effective management of personnel and resources, as well as marketing and underwriting acceptable bond classes. Key accountabilities include sales and marketing, account management, financial analysis, underwriting, and employee development and management.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide effective management by coaching and mentoring staff to meet profit and growth goals.
- Set and achieve a goal of desired net profit to meet Company objectives.
- Review and critique underwriting submissions to meet company standards of underwriting.
- Identify staffing needs within the respective branch and supervise direct reports.
- Prepare and meet expense budget to contribute to overall profitability.
- Keep current with marketing trends in the area and advise the company of these to respond appropriately to local needs.
- Participate in regular travel of the assigned territory by use of motor vehicle, public transportation, and/or airplane.
- Develop and maintain the agency database utilizing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.
- A High School diploma or equivalent, and a minimum of five years of progressively successful managerial experience in underwriting, production, and marketing within the fidelity and surety industry.
- Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products, as well as proficiency in the use of computer systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, accurate proofreading skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use a variety of office equipment.
- Expertise in financial analysis and the ability to analyze large amounts of data to gain relevant information.
