Senior Credit Analyst

The Senior Credit Analyst is a key resource to the LEAF Sales team, providing complex credit discussions with Obligors, Vendors, and others as needed. This role acts as a backup to the Credit Manager in their absence.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed credit write-ups for presentation to the LEAF Credit Committee and M&T Bank Deputy Credit Officer.
- Review complex borrower financial statements, including 10K and 10Q reports, and tax returns, requiring the use of financial spreadsheets and analysis of financial condition and cash flow.
- Recommend risk ratings based on the utilization of the bank's PD/LGD scorecard.
- Gather information from various sources, including vendors, vendor relationships with borrowers, and vendor quality assessments.
- Independently write detailed credit memos and participate in credit discussions with senior management.
- Advanced business credit skills with exceptional knowledge of commercial credit analysis and complex business cash flow cycles.
- Thorough understanding of critical analysis-related factors, including complex transaction and capital structures, complex organizational structures, loan documentation, advanced accounting and finance, industry models, and collateral types and assessment methodologies.
- Ability to quickly and accurately assess large ticket opportunities, determine if sufficient information is provided, and compile a list of questions and additional information needed.
- Specialty lending underwriting experience, including hospitals, non-profits, commercial real estate, and contractors.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately prepare spreads for complex large-ticket requests, including debt service overview worksheets.
- Strong understanding of Public Debt Ratings and their significance in the underwriting process.
- Ability to navigate Moody's, S&P, and Fitch ratings databases.
- Ensure adherence to LEAF credit policy, M&T bank policies, and government regulations.
- Facilitate customer calls to discuss financing needs and ensure a solid understanding of Obligor's financial performance and business operations.
- Exceptional understanding of public companies and related concepts.
- Ability to accurately and efficiently review 10Ks and 10Qs to extract pertinent information.
- Solid understanding of the U.S. stock markets and related economic concepts.
- Work with the LEAF Sales Team to structure loans/leases to meet client expectations while managing LEAF's risk exposure.
- Demonstrates strong understanding of financial regulatory environment as it applies to underwriting commercial credit transactions.
- Ability to assist in the management of the department in the Manager's absence.
Education, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements:
- BA/BS Degree, preferably in Finance or Accounting.
- Formal credit training preferred.
- 7-10+ years of related experience preferred.
- Leasing industry experience, a plus.
- Good working knowledge of other departments, including Sales, Funding, and Collections, and the interaction with the Credit Department.
- Good working knowledge of credit and underwriting principles and procedures as well as business concepts.
- Complete knowledge and understanding of LEAF's credit policies and procedures.
- Excellent underwriting analysis and investment decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to make presentations to the credit committee.
- Ability to communicate with sales, origination sources, obligors, account firms, banks, etc.
- Strong organization and attention to detail with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent ability to work independently but also as a team.
- Ability to correctly recognize and refer all pertinent information to persons with higher credit authority.
