Position Overview
The Nurse position is essential for ensuring that all clients within the AMIkids Program receive appropriate medical care as mandated by relevant regulations. Responsibilities include managing sick calls, providing routine medical care, conducting necessary screenings, maintaining medical records, liaising with external medical providers, facilitating transportation when needed, training program staff, conducting emergency drills, and overseeing the medical and dental needs of all clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily sick calls in accordance with established policies.
- Oversee the administration of medications and maintain accurate Medication Administration Records for all program participants.
- Manage medication procurement, verification, inventory, and storage processes.
- Ensure compliance with follow-up instructions from off-campus healthcare providers, documenting in Electronic Medical Records and/or Individual Health Care Records as necessary.
- Provide training sessions for team members on medical-related topics.
- Communicate daily with Administration and/or Shift Supervisor prior to sick calls and conduct end-of-day medication counts.
- Organize and document health education sessions for students and their families as required.
- Collaborate with other department staff regarding the medical needs of youth as part of a treatment team.
- Maintain a clean, professional, and child-friendly medical clinic environment.
- Utilize the Behavior Modification System effectively by guiding and redirecting students exhibiting inappropriate behavior.
- Administer first aid and CPR during emergencies in line with national standards.
- Operate program vehicles as necessary, adhering to transportation guidelines and maintaining approved driving status.
- Serve as a positive role model for all youth.
- Be available to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Participate in mandatory training and professional development activities, ensuring all certifications and licenses are current.
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must hold a valid nursing license in good standing within the state of employment.
- Preferred experience in pediatric nursing or within a correctional facility.
- Required to obtain and maintain crisis intervention and physical restraint training and certification as per state regulations.
- Must have current ACLS, BLS, and AED certifications from a nationally recognized organization.
